We’re All In This Together

I guess I lied. I have an agenda.

The tour is almost over.  It’s been wonderful to get to know Damion Suomi and Shivawn McCarthy these past few weeks.  They have become great friends.  Not only is Damion a fantastic storyteller, performer and a songwriter’s songwriter, he is exactly the kind of guy you want to hang out with at the end of the night on the road.

Damion is a Detroit Tigers fan, since he was born near there. Before we got to Michigan a couple weeks ago, I told him my grandpa used to take me to Tigers games when I was a kid.  He bought me a Tigers hat one summer and I wore it every day.  I even slept in it.  A few months later, I went to see a movie with my family and took the hat off. I left it in the seat next to me and forgot it there.  I went back in to find it, but alas, it was never to be found again.

Two days ago Damion was walking through Brooklyn and got me gift at a thrift store.

A Detroit Tigers hat.

How cool is that?

We’ve got two more shows on this tour.  Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore, PA tonight and The Red and Black in D.C. on Friday.  I’ll have Pete and Kevin with me in D.C. I haven’t played with them in a while, so I’m pretty sure it will rock fiercely and ferociously.   Hope to see you there.

I have been thinking and talking a lot about community on this tour.  If you are reading this blog, chances are you are part of the community that I see when I go out on the road.  You are the reason I am able to do this.  You are listening.

In this age of tweets and status updates, you can find out what most of your friends have going on in their lives with the click of a button.  However, that does not replace the need to interact with another human being, face to face.  Don’t get me wrong, I love all the tools and resources out there.  I use them daily.  I just don’t think we are actually connecting.  Not really.

So, I have come to a realization.  I have said before that I don’t have an agenda with my music.  I make it for you, and it helps me to work things out.  I love it.  It is my life’s passion.  I hope to continue making it and I hope to become a better musician, songwriter and performer.  I also hope to keep meeting amazing people all over this country (and the world!) that actually listen and interact with me in all of the places I find myself.

So, you see, I really do have an agenda.

I’m trying to create community.

Thank you for being a part of it.
